Zero Energy Homes

Techbuilt Structural Insulated Panels will help you achieve zero energy.

Building Features:

Use passive design elements with SIPS

Passive design in our SIPS will help even-out the highs and lows of cooling and heating while promoting natural ventilation and lighting.

Design overhanging eaves and window awnings sized to reject high-angle summer sun while receiving low-angle winter sun.

Select windows sized and placed for maximum cross ventilation as well as "thermo-siphoning," the exhaustion of high hot air and intake of low cool air. All taken in to account in our SIP design for our Insulated Panels.

Centrally-locate stair tower and north-facing skylight to reduce reliance on electric lighting.

Block walls and concrete slab possess a great deal of mass inside the insulation, storing the interior temperature for later release, smoothing out the daily high and low temperatures. *

Active Design elements incorporated in our SIP Panels

Use roof space to feature both solar water and photovoltaic collectors.

Make sure the building shell, windows, HVAC, hot water and electrical systems are designed and constructed with each other in mind, improving overall home performance.

Make sure all six sides of the building are designed to manage water vapor, air, and heat (including the transitions from roof to wall and wall to foundation).

Techbuilt structural insulated panel (SIP) designs define the cutting edge in green building and energy savings.

Energy Efficiency using our Sips

A green home is built with the efficient use of materials, manpower, and energy. We provide a home design that uses green building products, built efficiently, with a minimum of waste, environmental impact, time and money during construction, and provide a lifelong energy savings to the owner.

Our Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS) contain higher R values than a similarly sized wall, improving thermal performance. Airtight design and construction allows little infiltration, if any, creating an airtight seal. Because of this special attention should be paid to mechanical ventilation, avoiding potential back drafts.

As a SIP Manufacturer our construction relies on careful planning and design prior to delivery and site assembly. Panels are shipped to the jobsite for assembly when the foundation and deck are in place. Ideally, panels are offloaded and stacked in the exact reverse order needed, so that no sorting or shuffling is required.

The thermal performance of SIPs

Increased Thermal performance may significantly reduce costs for heating and air conditioning, one of the major expenses of home ownership. Use of our SIPs panels can help conserve scarce timber resources, since they provide good structural performance using significantly less dimensional lumber. The lumber used for SIP manufacturing OSB comes from fast growing trees that can be planted and harvested in just a few years.

Reduced energy use from the efficiency of SIPs insulation also translates to the conservation of resources, and manufacturers state that the foam products used for the core materials are environmentally benign.

The air sealing features of SIP homes resulted in the Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star program to establish an inspection protocol in lieu of the typically required blower door test to assess the home's air leakage.

By utilizing the SIP - Structural Insulated Panel building system, we provide a green building system that is energy efficient and developed Manufacturer cost competitive SIP Home Packages. Our Custom SIP Home Packages are the most energy efficient building systems available on the market!

It is important that our concentration on reduction of the carbon footprint of the United States on our planet be focused on the home. The energy utilized to construct a home is as important to the “Green” aspect of a home, as is the energy saved once the home is occupied.

TECHBUILT™ structural insulated panels (SIPS) provide exceptional efficiency and savings in heating and cooling costs while providing unprecedented freedom of design for building green and zero energy homes and commercial buildings.

Builder Benefit from using our Structural Insulated Panels or SIPS

In the field Techbuilt Systems' fully engineered building panels provide the builder with many benefits:

Pre-built in a controlled factory environment, panel construction is not weather dependent. Panels arrive when you need them and construction is faster so that the shell is enclosed, increasing job site security.

Accurately sized panels with door and window openings speed construction. Panels can be provided with top plates, window and door bucks, and gable overhangs already completed in the factory. Roof panels come with standard overhangs already built-in. Wire chase already in panels for easy flexibility in modifying outlet placement.

Panelized floor construction not only speeds construction but significantly increases job site safety. Factory built means far less job site waste - saving you man-hours and toll charges.

Air conditioning and heating capacity reduced by  up to 1/3 Faster and easier installation

Build your way  to a greener world with Techbuilt structural insulated panels, we are a SIP Manufacturer.

Less Callbacks for Warranty Work Factory quality control for straight and square walls No warping, splitting or twisting of studs

Our panels meet or exceed all building codes and green building standards.

Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) have become a widely used alternative construction material for homes and other buildings.

While many types of Composite Panel building systems have been developed, SIPs the abbreviation for Structural Insulated Panels usually refers to panels made from a thick layer of foam (polystyrene or polyurethane) sandwiched between two layers of Oriented Strand Board (OSB), plywood or fiber-cement.

The result is an engineered panel that provides structural framing, insulation, and exterior sheathing in a solid, one-piece component.

The basic design concept for SIPs is elegant in its simplicity, and offers several advantages for constructing walls and roofs.

Price of our Structural Insulated Panels or SIPS

The price of Techbuilt structural Insulated Panels make homes and buildings more affordable to own.

Nine Steps to a Zero Energy Home

1. Decrease the energy requirements for space heating, cooling and water heating

2. Increase foundation, wall and ceiling insulation.

3. Use low U-value, low-E windows in all climates and low solar heat gain (low SHGC) windows in cooling climates.

4. Seal all holes, cracks, and penetrations through the floor, walls, and ceiling to unconditioned spaces.

5. Install adequate ventilation, especially from kitchens and baths

6. Install efficient lighting fixtures, using permanent fluorescent fixtures in as many locations as possible . Look for the ENERGY STAR® label 5. Install efficient appliances:

8. Install a properly sized photovoltaic (PV) system

9. Use a water conservation system - Uses 30% less water for indoor needs and supplies nearly all its own water for outdoor use.

Fast Facts About Your Home

Water:

Although our planet is 71 percent water, humans depend on a mere .65 percent of the water for survival – much of which is polluted.

US water users withdraw enough water to fill a line of Olympic-size swimming pools reaching around the world EVERY DAY (300 billion gallons)

Older toilets use 3.7-7 gallons per flush

A dripping faucet waste 15-21 gallons per day

Dishwashers use 8-14 gallons per cycle

Top-loading washers use 45 gallons/load

About a quarter of the nation’s largest industrial plants and water treatment facilities are in serious violation of pollution standards at any one time.

An estimated 7 million Americans are made sick annually by contaminated tap water; in some rare cases this results in death.

Some audio information for the blind

Indoor Air Quality:

US EPA ranks indoor air pollution among top five environmental risks. Unhealthy air is found in up to 30% of new and renovated buildings

W.H.O. reports that indoor air pollution causes 14 times more deaths than outdoor air pollution (2.8 million lives)

Of hundreds of EPA-regulated chemicals, only ozone and sulfur dioxide are more prevalent outdoor than indoors

20 percent of all housing in the US has too much lead dust or chippings (causes kidney and red blood cell damage, impairs mental and physical development, may increase high blood pressure)

Wood:

Although the US is home to only 4.5 percent of the global population, it is responsible for over 15 percent of the world’s consumption of wood.

Pesticides:

In the US, pesticides poison 110,000 people each year. More than one-third of calls to animal poison control centers result from pets exposed to pesticides.

The volatile organic compounds (including pesticides) found indoors are believe to cause 3,000 cases of cancer a year in the US.

According to the New York State Attorney General’s office, 95 percent of the pesticides used on residential lawns are considered probable carcinogens by the EPA

2,4-D—a component of Agent Orange—is used in about 1,500 lawn care products
